The April 25th Zoning Board Meeting discussed fences... and a few other things.
A request for a variance allowing an addition to be built on a house on Kent Road took longer than usual, because the applicant needed to also request a variance for a shed that is closer to the property line than code allows.... a shed that was on the property when he purchased the property. He needed to amend the variance request, requiring his Public Hearing to be postponed until he could get that done. We are all safe now.. the variance for the addition was granted... and the shed (with the condition that if the shed is torn down or otherwise removed - it can only be rebuilt within code/or with a new variance).
A Public Hearing for a property on Widmer Road - legalizing accessory structures on a 59.30 acre parcel was postponed.
A request for a garage to be built on a 24.60 acre parcel on Wheeler Hill Road was granted.
An individual living on the corner of Cayuga Drive and Old Hopewell Road requested to build a 6 foot fence, where 4 feet is allowed -- because the headlights and traffic from a rerouted Sgt. Palmateer Road shine into his living space. Given that the road was rerouted/built within the last 5 years, one would have hoped that the Planning Board and the professionals advising them... would have taken into account the impact on neighbors in existing houses. The fact that this property owner now has to pay for a fence to ensure privacy because of the town's actions makes one question the whole process -- that is the purpose of the Planning Board and the Zoning Code -- to protect the property of town residents.
A request for variance to legalize existing sun room, deck and pool deck on Applesauce Lane was approved.
A request for a 6 foot fence on Spook Hill Road was discussed - with a site visit planned for May 6th. The Board was advised that there is also a Berm that was built - it needs to be verified that it is not on Town Easement, and would be included in the height of the requested fence.
A request to legalize a shed on Larissa Lane requiring set-back variances was postponed because the applicant was not at the meeting
A 21.4 acre property on Route 376 requested a variance to extend a 6 foot privacy fence around the property to prevent individuals from walking on the property without permission.
In addition, variances to legalize accessory structures currently on the property were also discussed. the site visit is scheduled for May 6.
