An Amazing Coincidence of Events just hit Hughsonville

Wow -- What an April Fool's Day.

1) Gas Land Petroleum project had its final code inspection and will be issued a Certificate of Occupancy.

  • This was anticipated when the restraining order was dropped several years ago, with the understanding that any construction would proceed at the developer's risk.

2) A decision, in court waiting for a decision for several years, was issued by the court regarding the law suit against the Town of Wappinger Planning Board was made, favoring the developer.

  • There are two Article 78 Law Suites - one against the Town of Wappinger Zoning Board, currently awaiting a decision in the Appellate Court. The appeal was filed in October 2025. The second, mentioned in this article is against the Town of Wappinger Planning Board.

  • the writer of the article did not reach out to those who are actually brought the law suit to find out the facts or even a point of view on the judge's ruling.

  • The article quotes the developer as suggesting the law suits were about competition. This is the furthest thing from the truth. The law suits are against a Town Government which listened and obeyed a former Town Supervisor over the wishes of the residents, especially the residents living in an area characterized by the court "most surrounding properties were dilapidated". What a nice way to characterize our neighborhood, of which we are most proud... and it is categorically false that the plan was "well received by the town - please look at the record of the Planning Board's public hearing ."

Here are the next steps - our legal counsel is reviewing the judge's decision on the Planning Board Case and will be advising us on what next steps may/may not make sense. Meanwhile, the case against the Town Zoning Board of Appeals is still active.

We will notify you when we have additional information. Thank you for your support through this long journey. This is about standing up as residents against a Town Government (yes former elected officials and ZBA/Planning Board members) that does not respect the rights of its electorate.
