On September 6, the Town Board of Wappinger voted unanimously to approve resolutions to bond $54 Million dollars (a 40 year pay back period) to extend the Sewer and Water infrastructure on Route 9.
The Town is applying for grants made available for infrastructure development by the state and federal governments. The initial grant available is for up to $5M and the grants will reduce the amount of the bonds dollar for dollar.
The residents and businesses within the newly formed district will be responsible for paying back the bond, the capital costs required by the water and sewer infrastructure as well as any usage fees.
The water systems supporting the town’s current water districts are expected to have sufficient capacity to support a new district. The Tri-Municipal Sewer commission will require improvements and upgrades to manage the new requirements.
The exact parameters of the district, the phasing of the project are still to be determined. The Town will be required to hold a Public Hearing.
