New Firehouse? $19M Bond Vote on April 7 - 6 pm-9pm at Firehouse
The Hughsonville Fire Department held an information meeting on March 31.
Details can be found at their website https://www.hfd45.org/news/80/Proposed-Building-Project-Information-
The Architect reviewed the plans - which are lovely and seem to meet all the required needs, safety and code upgrades as well as ADA complaince for meeting rooms and other facilities. The design draws upon the school house building that was once located at the site.
However.... the dream firehouse will cost a lot of $$, and the numbers presented are estimates... with some contingencies added.
But here's the nuts and bolts -- and what it means to you as a taxpayer -- and what the Fire Commissioners are asking you to vote (The Vote is NEXT TUESDAY, April 7 -- (6 pm to 9 pm) for those in the Hughsonville Fire District.
The vote will be to ok an $18,995,000 (yes, that is right) Bond — 25 or 30 years, interest rate to be determined — because the actual bond will be floated at the point of construction which will be in a year or 18 months (the bond guys were at the meeting)….. and even though “the world is going through some things” — they don’t “think” that there will be huge changes in the bond market…
BUT — the finance guy said … the cost of this bond will more than double the residents current fire taxes.
This example was presented — A $400,000 property would see a tax increase of $531.24 per year - for the life of the bond, assuming that the bond is a 4% bond.
So you can compare the valuation of your home against a valuation of $400,000 -- and estimate the increase in taxes that you could expect... each year to pay for this bond.
Remember, this is only one of the line items of taxes that you would see on your property tax bill in February. (The Town Tax, the Library District Tax, the county Tax -- and any special water/sewer/lighting district taxes are additional line items).
