Special Meeting on Sewer & Bugs

A special town board meeting was held on May 6.... to act on resolutions concerning a sewer project and bugs on the Town's sports fields.
Mid Point Park Sewer District is a Town of Wappinger Sewer district servicing about 150 homes. It is aging and needs maintenance. Apparently there are a number of engineering options to make the required fixes -- but the $10 Million dollar option is the one settled on by the town board because "it is the cheapest" (let's hope that decision making criteria doesn't come back and bite anyone). The reason for the special meeting to pass the required resolutions -- is there are state grants available, with deadlines for applications -- and the special meeting needed to be held to pass the resolutions to enable the engineers to go ahead and apply for the grants before the deadline. So let's hope this is the right solution and funding will awarded to the town.
As part of the agreement with the Little League organization, the town is to provide a tractor for mowing of the sports fields. The current tractor/mower is over 20 years old and has mechanical issues. Three quotes were obtained and the board approved a resolution to purchase a tractor/mower for 11 thousand dollars for Robinson Lane.
The board then segued to a conversation about the spongy moth worms that have been "raining" on the Robinson Lane sport fields, so much that fields have been shut and games called off because of the amount of bugs -- and that they have caused a rash on some of the players. A resolution approving an agreement with Waverly Pest Control to spray for mosquitos & ticks... which will also affect the spongy moth bugs...was passed by a 3 to 1 vote, with one board member concerned about the long term health affects of sprays. So Robinson Lane, Airport Soccer and Rockingham Sports fields will be sprayed, enabling more immediate comfort to players and spectators.
