Sugar Shack Coming to Hughsonville

The November 4 Planning Board Meeting consisted of a public hearing regarding the proposed Site Plan for the Randolph School's plan to move Educational Lean-tos on their property to comply with set-back rules and away from their septic system as well as adding a Sugar Shack which will be used by the students during Maple Syrup Sugaring Season - and as an additional structure throughout the year.

During the Public Hearing a letter was read from the Hughsonville & Wheeler Hill Community Association supporting the project and its alignment with the objectives of the Hudson Valley Greenway (of which the town has been a member for over 25 years, but all three boards seem to have members that forget that and what committments that implies). A neighbor of Randolph School also spoke, supporting the project, but also used this time to publicly chastise the Randolph School for placing some debris in their sight lines. Randolph School was made aware of their concerns previously, and has acted to ameliorate the situation, but the Planning Board Members decided that the cleaning up of the site should be a condition of their approval.... which they gave after some verbal flogging. (It would be helpful if the building department and board members were to have personal information about the sites that they are making decisions about and opinining on... it was clear from the civilized exchange.... that there is a difference of opinion about the extent of the issue, the timeliness of it being addressed, and the steps to remediation -- and while this situation ended well... similar situations may not in the future. So ... the Sugar Shack is coming and let's all celebrate that!

A public hearing for a Ground Mounted Solar System on Dugan Lane was closed as the Solar Company has indicated to the town that they will no longer be moving forward with the project.
