The September 8 Town Board meeting got off to a rousing start with 2 board members missing - leaving only the supervisor and council members of Ward 3 and Ward 4 in attendance.
After the housekeeping of starting the meeting the consent agenda - these agreed upon resolutions were approved by the board members in attendance:
An employee had submitted his employment resignation - the board accepting.
A resolution enabling the town clerk to publish request for proposals on work to correct stormwater systems for Myers Corners Landing.
Non consent agenda
Resolution for a water tenancy agreement for 642-660 Wheeler Hill Road - Approved
Resolution for water tenancy agreement for 91-95 New Hackensack Road.
Resolution to hire a temporary employee in the recreation department (helping the department because there is an employee who is on extended leave).
The Supervisor mentioned the DEP Water Route on Wheeler Hill Road were given access to the water line because the property owners gave easements to allow the water line to be installed. The Town engineer is working to give guidance to those property owners (single family homes) who are along the water line on the steps necessary to hook-up to the water line.
The supervisor mentioned that developers, up until last month, were looking at opportunities for multi-family development, including having access to water. With the updates to the zoning code will limit multi-family housing and use of municipal water. He and his team are working on a 2026 Town Budget.
The Walk of Heros through Schlathaus park - gives the opportunity to reflect on the miliary service of town residents.
The Reese Park pedestrian bridge - with a grant from the Greenway - to replace a bridge that was damaged.
Martz Field will be reseeded because generous Tyler Adams/Scott's donation.
Speeding on town roads - please contact Town Council Members with any issues. The town has speed signs that record data. With 24 hours ... 300 hits on Cedar Hill Road of people speeding.
Many events planned for September - Grinnell Library Gala, Hughsonville Fire District Pancake breakfast, 9/11 remembrance ceremonies, First Responder awards, Town's 150th anniversary - Carnifall, Dahlia Show, Masonic Lodge & Hudson Valley Airport hosting car shows, Carnworth Farms - Business & Professional Luncheon, Rocky's Ruck.
Hosted Hudson Valley Baseball tournament was successful,
Small Scale Cellular poles are being installed around town (about the size of traditional telephone poles) will help with cellular gaps.
At minute 23 of the 33 minute meeting... Council Member Beale entered the meeting. The Board congratulated him for his confirmation as Emergency Commissioner for the county - and he was being confirmed this evening at the Dutchess County Legislature -- explaining his absence. He brought up the 9/11 ceremonies and first responders awards.
The supervisor showed a chart showing that 76% of property tax bill goes to the School District. The town staff DOES not set the tax rate. Council member Beale claims that Wappingers Central School District has worked hard to keep taxes low. Not sure what the facts are on this stated comparison. He of course blamed the state mandates for school taxes.
Executive Session - to discuss legal actions against the town (why is this a secret... legal actions against the town are public record... why does one have to go through court documents to discover this?)
